Quick answer
The Speed Square Pocket X securely holds a 7” or 7.5” square and a trim square, and installs on any HypaLock-compatible belt or pouch using single or double clip accessories.
What makes the Speed Square Pocket X different
Unlike basic square sleeves, the Pocket X uses SquareLock Technology to grip the square firmly without flopping. It also works with the HypaLock system, letting you attach it to your belt, a pouch, or a Flat Bar Holster. That flexibility means you can position your square exactly where you need it.
Square compatibility and limitations
The Pocket X is designed for 7” and 7.5” speed squares and trim squares. If you use a 6” square or a larger rafter square, this pocket won’t fit. Also, the SquareLock mechanism works best with squares that have a standard thickness; very thin or unusually shaped squares may not lock as securely.
How to install and use the Speed Square Pocket X
- 1. Choose your attachment method: Decide whether to use a single clip, double clip, or pouch attachment. The Pocket X is compatible with all HypaLock accessories and the Flat Bar Holster. If you plan to carry other pouches on the same belt, a double clip provides more stability. Using a single clip on a heavily loaded belt may cause the pocket to tilt; double clips prevent that.
- 2. Attach the clips to the Pocket X: Snap the HypaLock clip(s) onto the back of the Pocket X until they click into place. Make sure the clip orientation matches your belt direction (vertical or horizontal carry). Clips that aren't fully seated can pop off under load; always test the connection before adding the square.
- 3. Mount the Pocket X on your belt or pouch: Slide the assembled Pocket X onto your HypaLock-compatible belt or pouch webbing. Position it where you can easily reach the square with your dominant hand. Press down until the clips lock onto the webbing. If the pocket feels loose, the clip may not be engaged fully; remove and reattach until you hear a click.
- 4. Insert your speed square: Slide your 7” or 7.5” square into the pocket with the blade facing down. Push until the square locks into the SquareLock mechanism. You should feel a slight resistance and hear a click. Forcing a square that's too thick or too thin can damage the lock; stick to standard speed squares and trim squares.
- 5. Add a trim square (optional): If you carry a trim square, insert it into the secondary slot behind the main square. Both squares will be held securely and independently. Overloading the pocket with more than two squares may reduce retention; remove one if you feel excess play.
- 6. Test retention and adjust: Give the square a gentle tug to confirm it's locked. If it moves, check the SquareLock mechanism for debris or damage. Adjust the clip position if the pocket sits at an awkward angle. A square that rattles during movement isn't fully locked; reseat it until silent.
